My 2025 research blog
In 2025, I’ve decided to start writing a little blog where I write summaries on papers that my friends have written, and maybe also papers that I will write and publish. I actually really love reading research papers but I’ve realized that I’m able to engage with them more when I have a chance to write about what I’m reading. Also, one of my professional goals this year is to get better at explaining my own science in a way that is clear and understandable. Scientists often use niche jargon that isn’t clear to others and in order to communicate the significance of our work, it’s important to be able to explain it clearly.
Sometimes when news articles write about scientific topics they will over-simplify or misinterpret results. For example, a common misinterpretation that is often seen in news articles is describing two things as having a causal relationship when the data says that they are simply correlated. That’s how you get articles saying things like “Social media causes poor mental health” when — actually — no causal relationship has been established. Public awareness about significant scientific findings is important, but in order for the public to understand the findings, they need to be communicated accurately.
This blog gives me an excuse to engage in cool and practice explaining science clearly without misinterpreting the findings. Whoever is reading this, I hope that you will enjoy reading about these cool studies that have been done in my field!
